Steven S. Michalicek - Founding Partner

Steven has over 25 years of experience in corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, private equity investing and the capital markets. Steven served as Senior Vice President with GE Capital Corporation where he was responsible for debt and equity investments in private businesses and Vice President with The First National Bank of Chicago, a money-center bank, where he was involved in all aspects of corporate banking from commercial lending to credit review, audit and credit approval. Steven's professional experience spans many industries and types of financial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, equity offerings, Euro market placements, securitizations, credit enhanced placements, project financings and derivatives.
Steven co-founded LimoLink, Inc, a technology enabled real-time reservation company and Valley Apparel Company, a quick response licensed sports apparel company, under exclusive contract with adidas. Valley Apparel was sold to adidas America in 2004. Steven also sits on the Board of Directors of three companies. His professional affiliations include membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Turnaround Management Association. He served on the FASB Special Task Force on Financial Instruments and the National Accounting Board with Robert Morris Associates. Steven has held Board seats with the Chicago Youth Symphony, National Czech and Slovak Museum & Library, Freedom Festival and currently the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre.
Steven holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Iowa, a graduate degree in Finance from DePaul University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Jim Kelly - Principal

Mr. Kelly joined Greentree Partners in 2004. Prior to joining Greentree he served as Director of Corporate Development along with being Director of Sales and Marketing at KW Products. Mr. Kelly has been a principal and owner in several consulting firms and has been involved in several acquisitions and mergers. An accomplished corporate development strategist and marketer, his vision and expertise have driven growth in the consulting, professional services, manufacturing, distribution and communication sectors. He is a gifted business communicator working primarily with companies in business-to-business, channel sales and industrial markets, Jim has more than 25 years of experience building brands and guiding companies toward success.
He is a published author and curriculum developer for the Banking and Real Estate sectors.
Jim attended the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN. A marketing major, he has received certification from Mastering Business Development, Inc. (MBDi) as a Master of Business Development.
Jim served in the US Army, attending several professional career development courses. He retired as the 1st Sergeant of a 139 person Signal Company.
Stephen Hanson

Stephen has worked with small and start-up companies in the software and materials industries providing them with marketing, administrative and organizational assistance for more than 25 years.
Prior to joining Greentree Partners worked with a number of companies including a group investigating new electrical generation technologies, the creation of an organization to inspect homes and commercial structures concerning potential mold concerns, and the Patient Education Institute, a provider of interactive, multimedia tutorials for the medical market, among other projects. He assisted PEI in the creation of a significant relationship with the National Institute of Health's National Library of Medicine, and was directly responsible for obtaining CEBA funding from the State of Iowa.
Stephen was a founder and executive vice president of American Matrix Technologies, a start-up company focused on the development of sprayable ceramic materials for seven years beginning in 1992. Here he was involved in the totality of corporate operations, including raising and structuring equity funds and investor relations. AMT was a pioneer in the use and popularization of these esoteric materials working not only in the US but in several foreign countries. Prior to this experience he worked with Diversified Composites, manufacturers of cultured marble gift products, and with Professional Management Systems, providers of remote batch processing computer services for the accounting industry.
Stephen is a life-long resident of Iowa and is active in the local community where he is the president of the Friends of Old St. Michael's, a non-profit group raising funds for, maintaining and improving an historic Catholic Church complex in Holbrook, Iowa that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and he acts as secretary for the Williamsburg Library Foundation.
Hanson holds a Liberal Arts degree from the University of Iowa.
Douglas J. Nicholas - Founding Partner

Doug has over 19 years as an Entrepreneur, CEO/President and Senior Executive within the CRM, customer support and, help desk and software industry. Prior to Greentree, Doug served as the Vice President of Business Development for Interact Commerce where he helped build the company from an early stage start-up through venture financing, two acquisitions and successful IPO. Prior to its acquisition by SalesLogix in December 1997, Doug served as Founder, President and CEO of Opis Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa. Opis was a pioneer and leader in customer support and help desk applications. Opis Corporation was the best performing investment in the history of the Iowa Seed Capital Venture Fund. Doug also co-founded and served as Executive Vice President of Sales for Network Technologies Inc, an advanced network design and implementation firm also located in Des Moines, IA. Prior to Network Technologies, Doug was a territory manager for Allergan Pharmaceuticals.
Doug is a member of the AZSoft.net Association (past board member), investing member of the Arizona Angels Association and is an active investor and advisor to several software firms around the country. Doug holds a B.A. in Public Relations, Marketing from the University of Northern Iowa.
